The accounting tricks used to hide the true cost of war.
Politicians claim the war in the Middle East is cheap. They get away with this by using "depreciated valuation"—pricing destroyed drones and missiles at their 1990s value instead of what it will actually cost to replace them today. Click to declassify the true financial burden.

1. The "Discount" Drone Fleet[ DECLASSIFY ]
The military values a destroyed legacy drone at a fraction of its original cost to keep the war budget looking small. However, those production lines are closed. Replacing them requires buying next-generation models that cost tens of millions more per unit, forcing taxpayers to absorb a massive, hidden recapitalization premium.
2. The Rare Earth Ransom[ DECLASSIFY ]
We fired hundreds of cruise missiles that cost millions of dollars each. The guidance magnets inside those missiles require rare earth elements controlled almost entirely by China. To restock our own arsenals, the government has to pump billions in emergency subsidies into domestic mining, skyrocketing the true cost of every missile fired.
3. The Multi-Generational Medical Tab[ DECLASSIFY ]
The official budget entirely ignores the greatest cost of any conflict: caring for the wounded. The actuarial liability for traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, and lifelong disability care for our service members will cost the Department of Veterans Affairs tens of billions of dollars over the next fifty years.
